Q: If a boy and a girl are getting married, should horoscopes be matched or not?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:
You can match horoscopes, it is fine. If there is a match it is really good, but if the horoscopes don’t match, it is okay. Just pray! Everything is acceptable.

Q: Is it necessary to match horoscopes for a good marriage?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:
Check if the horoscopes are correct or not. Sometimes they are manipulated to suit someone’s needs. If you like someone in all other aspects, and everything seems okay, then it’s fine, you should go ahead and marry the person.

Q: What is the importance of horoscope matching when it comes to marriage?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:
Astrology is a science but all astrologers are not scientists (laughter). First of all, you don’t know whether the time of your birth and all other factors are right or not. Sometimes, we don’t keep records and there are various factors. There is probability in all those factors. So, if you find someone who is good, the astrologer says, ‘Good, it does have a value but it is always with a pinch of salt.’It is said that there was a great astrologer of this country and he made all the horoscopes of his daughter. But his daughter’s marriage didn’t work. It was quoted as a probability factor. In all scientific experiments, there is always a probability factor – may be, may not be.So we must take it with that probability and not as definite.

Q: How much does it matter to match the kundalis (Horoscopes) during marriage?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:
If you feel like, then get it done. Otherwise, you will always have a doubt in mind whether it will match or not. It is okay to match it. Now, suppose you like the other person in all ways but just one thing doesn’t match in the kundali, then there is a solution to it. Meditate, pray, and do havan (oblation) and everything will be sorted out. It is not difficult to please all the planets. Chant ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ and it is done.

Q: I have a girlfriend and we truly love each other and want to get married, but she is Manglik. My parents are against our marriage because of this. Please tell me what to do.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:
Look, if your parents believe in this and they have a strong feeling for it, then as you sow, so shall you reap (Meaning: what you believe in, is what will bring the outcome).
But if you say, 'God is beyond all that, and I have deep devotion in the Divine, and he will pull me out of all this', then it is a different thing.
So you have to take steps in agreement with everyone.
Whenever any Yagna (fire ceremony), or any auspicious work is to be done, the first step is to know everyone's agreement. In the beginning only, they generally ask, 'Is everyone in agreement to do this work? '
If everyone is in agreement then everyone will participate.
So, all of you, sit down together and look at the situation and make a decision. If all of you feel that 'God’s grace is above all this, and with devotion and prayer it will all be taken care of', then all planetary affects will be nullified. Also, just by chanting 'Om Namah Shivaya', everything will be alright.
Yesterday, somebody in Pune told me that he met an astrologer. The astrologer told him, 'How are things going well for you. You chart says that you have many problems'.
He told the astrologer, 'By the grace of God, everything is going well'. This is very true; devotion, grace and blessings are above all.

Q: Is it necessary to match horoscopes before getting married? Isn’t it enough if two hearts match?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:
Yes, it is enough. But if you have some doubt, then match the horoscope. If the horoscope doesn’t match and if you have faith in horoscopes, then what will happen is whenever any small things goes wrong the mind will say, ‘We never matched’
People after being together for 40 years say they never matched each other. I have asked, ‘Then how could you live for forty years together?’ They say that their thoughts did not match for even one day and there was no compatibility at any level.
So, life is like that. Life is a compromise; an adjustment. Somewhere you have to give and take.
Also in horoscopes it is said that there is always a possible remedy. Suppose, something does not match then if you do this upaya (remedy) – like a certain japa (chanting) or charity, then a resolution will happen.
